The Benefits of Brain Teasers and Puzzles

It’s important to keep your brain active especially as we get older, you will probably have seen enough of this in the media. By keeping your mind sharp, you could possibly keep dementia and senility at bay for the foreseeable future. Brain teasers and puzzles are a great for doing this and are much better than sitting in front of the TV or your computer or laptop.

Stay away from repetitive tasks that don’t stimulate you

By doing repetitive tasks over and over again your brain is dulled and every now and again it needs a challenge. It helps to keep your cognitive and memory skills sharp, which can decrease if you’re kept busy. The message is stay away from sedentary activities and do more – physically and mentally if you can.

Variety is the spice of life

Always choose a variety of different things, don’t just stick with what you know. If you like crosswords by all means don’t give them up but try other things too. Your brain will become bored with the same puzzles so try something new every now and again, give your brain a shock!

Who Visits Escape Doncaster?

Today we’re talking about the type of people who visit Doncaster’s Escape Games. You might be surprised to know there’s quite a range. There’s quite a wide range of people who get a lot of different things out of coming here and playing Escape.

Corporate teams love the skills they can pick up.

First off, we’re going to start with corporate teams. Corporate teams can be in any business, but they usually come because there’s some team building to be done. It can be because the team leader wants to see whose strengths and weaknesses can be utilised effectively or perhaps because they want to work on weaknesses, such as communication skills or problem solving. It’s also a great opportunity to just get away from the office and have a day out – and that always makes for a great way to relax for the workers.

Students use it as a way to get away from their studies.

Students also enjoy the escape games as it’s a great way to unwind, get away from the desk and destress. Our Escape Games are the perfect way to break the ice with new students or to catch up with friends they may not have seen for a while.

Family and friends come to spend time together.

Family and friends love the escape games because it’s the ideal opportunity to catch up with loved ones and let their hair down. They love to hire a room and just enjoy the atmosphere of fun with people they know really well, and trying to solve the puzzles and clues together as a team.

Celebrations with friends or family.

Finally, we have people coming to our escape rooms here in Doncaster who are celebrating an important life event. It may be a hen or stag do, a birthday or any other event worth celebrating. Maybe it’s another special event, an anniversary perhaps, or simply to just celebrate life!

Five Fantastic Team Building Activities

We believe our escape games here at Doncaster are the best for corporate team building, but we’re going to go through a few more so you’ll have a choice of where to take your team. It’s a great way to identify new skills, old hidden ones and for your people to get out of the office and be in a new environment with their peers.

1 Scavenger Hunt

Good communication and engagement are on the cards here if your team take part in a scavenger hunt. You can move around your town or city, so everyone’s getting some fresh air, and while you’re out and about, you collect a series of clues and collect physical items, such as photographs. Once you’ve completed your hunt you get a prize, whichever team gets there first of course.

2 Boot Camp

Boot camp is one for the fittest and most energetic of your team. It’s delivered by ex-military and it’s designed to test the more physical side of your team’s skills. There’s combat techniques and survival as well as escape and evade and a good amount of problems solving, which is good for any team building exercise. There’s also a degree of communication required and of course, supporting your team mates which builds camaraderie and helps people to bond.

3 Sports Day

A sports day with your team mates can be organised within your organisation’s grounds or you can go to a pre-arranged one somewhere else if you don’t have the facilities to support this. It’ll create a healthy bit of competition between team members and you can even have some medals for the winners and an opening and closing ceremony. It’ll be great way for your team members to socialise, communicate, and bond with each other.

4 It’s a knockout

This is a TV show favourite from the 70s and if you’ve seen I’m a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here, then you’ll have seen something similar there. There’s water, trees, lots of outdoor space and plenty of opportunity for you to get wet and dirty while you try to clear some obstacles and get to the finishing line quicker than your team mates. It’s not for the nervous, but it’ll help break the ice and get the shy out of their dark office corners.

5 Escape Doncaster

Escape games are the best in team building activities, even if we do say so ourselves. You’re locked in a room with between 2 to 6 people, and while in there you have to find and solve a series of clues, and once solved and you’ve got the key, you can escape. This isn’t as simple as it sounds because you’ll have to work as a team, and you’ll need good powers of observation, and great communication skills. All of these are skills needed back at the office. We definitely think it’s one of the best, so book your escape room today and we’ll see you and your team down here!

Both our rooms are a real challenge that provide a brilliant challenge for those that love to be tested, but also a real challenging live exit game where you can spend time with friends.

How smart are you?

Games usually consist of around 2 to 6 people for it to work. It’s not a game of one person, it’s all about collaboration, and joining in and having the best time of your life for an hour. Yes, you’ll be locked into a room for 60 minutes and to get free you’ll have to find the carefully concealed clues hidden within the room itself. You’ll need to use your problem-solving skills and the powers of observation to give yourself the best chance of escaping.

What themes do we have for our two escape rooms?

Our two rooms are the Da Vinci room and Area 51, both completely different. On the one hand you have the code breaking and symbolism of this amazing story and on the other you have the Roswell sci-fi mystery of Area 51.

Whichever one you decide on you’ll have a fantastic time, we know that much. So, which room are you going to choose?

5 Fantastic Team Building Activities

Today we’re talking about team building because we know their value. We’ve been working on escape games now for some time, and we know better than anyone how popular they are with corporate teams. However, what other games are there that you and your team can benefit from? We’re going to be going over 5 of the best and then you can decide which one best suits your team.

1 Zombie Escape

This doesn’t have to mean even leaving the building. You can do it from your corporate HQ. Just book a conference room for the afternoon and then lock yourselves in. Select someone out of your team to be the zombie. They’ll be tied to a rope in the corner and gradually you can allow the ‘zombie’ closer to the rest of the team as you try to work out some clues and puzzles. The longer it takes, the closer the zombie gets, and eventually you’ll need to find a hidden key, before the zombie reaches you!

2 It’s a Knockout

A tried and tested game based on an old theme. There are a number of obstacles, most including water and soap, and your team must work their way through them all to get to the finish line, whoever gets there first is the winner. It’ll involve getting your team out of the office to an outdoor facility that does this type of thing, and there are a few venues that do. However, no doubt your team will be grateful for the opportunity to get out of the office for the day.

3 Military Team Building Exercises

These are proving popular. They involve going through a series of obstacles (again!), most having been designed by ex-military and are meant to truly test your physical agility and mental prowess. Those with physical impairments may not enjoy this type of activity, especially for those who aren’t particularly fit either, but it’s up to you to decide whether your team is up to it. It can be tremendous fun and an exhilarating experience.

4 Scavenger Hunt

This will really depend on collaboration and team bonding skills. You’ll organise your team into separate groups and then draw up a list of fun things for them to do with one mission in mind, and that is to find something at the end, like a prize. Each item that is completed on their list is ticked off and the first group to finish is the winner. It could be spotting landmarks or certain items within a landscape which they must photograph, and then eventually they get to the final one. It’ll be a route that everyone will follow.

5 Escape Games

Here at Escape Doncaster, you know the drill, we lock you in a room and you have 60 minutes to escape. You do this by solving a series of clues and puzzles which you work together on as a team. Working quickly, communicating well and bonding and icebreaking are things you can utilise, and you’ll be able to spot which skills your team are good at and which are not. We’re bound to think our team building activities are the best, and we’re bias we know. But you really will have a great time! Book your room today!

What are Escape Games

Today we’re going to be talking about escape games. If up until now you thought escape games were something your children played in the garden when they’re bored, or a computer game you have absolutely no interest in finding out about, you couldn’t be more wrong. You’ll be pleased to know that escape is a game for adults and older children. It’s a game that’s played out in a themed room and not a computer screen, or a garden. In fact, it’s a game where you have to use your brain, think carefully and work out a series of puzzles and cryptic clues in order to escape.

60 Minutes To Escape – And Only Your Friends To Help You

Is that it? Well, no because you only have an hour to work out all the puzzles and clues before you get out – so 60 minutes isn’t that long. You’ll need to keep your wits about you and have a team that’s as sharp-witted as you are. Communication is key and allowing everyone to communicate their ideas so you have a better chance of escape, everyone gets their say and that’s important. Collect all your clues together, and then on the final home run, work them out so you can get out within the hour.

Themed Rooms That Are Fun and Capture The Imagination

The themes are a real mix of popular cultural influences, there’s the Da Vinci Room, and Area 51, and working creatively together you can solve the puzzles in the themed room of your choice. Lose yourself in your imagination and enjoy the hour you’re in there.

Escape Games Are Popular With A Wide Variety Of Different Groups

Escape games are enjoyed by a variety of different people, we have students, corporate teams, hen and stag dos, birthday parties and people who come just for a break away from the chaos of daily life. They’ll often bring their families or close friends, it’s a great way of breaking the ice and bonding with new people, so if you’re welcoming a new team member at work or a new student at your university, this is a great way to introduce them to your friends.
